PROJECT 02: CHANNEL BUMPER

Instructions
We are required to choose an existing brand and create a channel bumper based on the brand identify and information. Students can choose to either do it in pairs or individually.

The channel bumper should reflect the brand's concept- students are expected to utilise audio, sketches, and conceptual ideas using appropriate software to present our proposed design.

Following are the requirements for submission:
(Progress should be compiled and presented in a Slide)
1. Mood-board
2. Style Guide
3. Sketches
4. Storyboard
5. Technical Processes

Chosen Brand
LOVE MAYA - Skin care and Bath Brand based in Malaysia.
Website link:

It is a nature themed brand that focuses on nostalgic and comfort scents; hence the overall aesthetic is clean and simple in neutral tones.

Sketches
Jia Yi and I both brainstormed ideas by drawing different sketches of our own.

After consultation with Mr. Fauzi, we were advised to use my sketch for Channel Bumper. He told us that Jia Yi's sketch is more of a brand ident and can be used for project 3 instead.

Artboards
Using my sketch, we split the illustration process between both of us. I was in charge of drawing the Freedom/sunrise frames while Jia Yi was in charge of the remaining frames.

These were the initial frames that I illustrated for our artboard and slowly amended them as we compared and collaborated with each other.

After a few changes, these were the final illustrations for the beginning frames. The full artboard with all frames of the composition can be found in the progress slide.

Editing Process
The editing process took most of our time, we split our work between both of us to animate each frame and section. Again, I did the Freedom and sunrise frames as well as the background colour/effects.

Before we finalised our artboard composition, I also tried out my illustration on After Effects to kind of draft a visual style for reference. This was the draft.

This draft was after we finalised and put together the full artboard, as well as compiled our animations together. It was also before I started working on the background transition.

After some feedback, we were also told that our animation was too fixed. We were told to add transitions so that the whole animation is continuous instead of having gaps or still images which loses audience interest. So, this was one of our transition drafts.

This is the final visual animation before adding audio.

Audio Process

After we finalised our visual composition, I exported the AE file into MP4 and imported it into Premier Pro. The reason for using Premier Pro is because we utilised a few audio files and SFX, as well as having to edit the volume and transition between each audio files. Therefore, doing the audio process on After Effect would have been troublesome and harder to control.

The audio that we chose is akin to nature, following the brand concept. Also including a few sound effects like water droplet, birds chirping and waves to add of depth to the entire compisition.
