PART 01 - PRECOMP
Adobe After Effects template:
Based on the 4 principles basic animation provided, create and animate
another 4 basic animations.
1. Movement (done)
2. Hierarchy (done)
3. Balance (done)
4. Direction (done)
5. Symmetry
6. Focus
7. Scale
8. Rhythm
Symmetry
For symmetry, I played with the mask and trim path as well as the scale tool to make a dynamic movement where the shapes transform and fade from one center point. The original idea was just to have the square in the middle, using the mask tool to make it fade out. However, I felt that it was too plain so I added another vertical line element to transform it into a different rectangle.
Focus
I opted for a simple animation for this principle. Using on one
two identical shapes, one with fill and one with stroke; I
utilised the rotation and size transformation to create some
sort of an illusion where they meet in the middle. This gives it
an interesting focus due to the motion blur.
For scale, I didn't want to use a complicated element as to
show the principle clearly. I created a seamless transition from
one circle and scaled it up into 3 different position to show
the graduality in the scaling. In order to do so, I also had to
play with the anchor point so that it will start at one point
when it enlarges, and end at a different point when it sizes
down. The reason I didn't use the position tool instead, is
because I didn't want the whole element to changed positions
during the scaling process.
Rhythm
The idea for rhythm was to create a bounce effect in the rectangles in
different positions. Each rectangle is set to transform in scale and
position to have the "bounce" effect. Starting from left ot right to show
rhythm.
PART 02 - COMPOSITION
From part 01, we are required to select any of our desired precomp
from 1 to 8. Then create a composition remix of our own.
Process
First, I chose a copyright free song
from Youtube and converted it to mp4 so that I can have a base for my
animation. Then, I played around with the different
pre-compositions to see which ones would blend well and which ones
would cause a break in the transition. The ones I decided to include
are:
1. Symmetry
2. Hierarchy
3. Rhythm
4. Scale
5. Movement
6. Focus
Balance and direction didn't really fit the direction of the song and
composition which is why I excluded them. Essentially, my composition
was based off of symmetry, as it was the easiest lead for the other
compositions to blend into. In certain parts, I made adjustments to
the transformation and motion graph so that it would hit certain beats
to flow nicely with the song chosen.
