Chosen Poster
After deciding between a few posters, I proceeded with this infographic poster as approved by Mr. Shamsul.

References
Before we started to digitise, we were told to show some references of how we want to frame our infographic poster. These were the two posters that I felt was well arranged and had interesting graphical elements.

Mr. Shamsul said these two were good examples, and the feedback he gave was that he doesn't want us to arrange our information in segments.

Digitisation process
Fig 3.1 Initial layout idea

Initially, this was my layout idea. I wanted to separate information into sections. However, after tutorial with Mr. Shamsul, I scratched this approach as he said segregating the information makes an infographic poster less appealing. He also suggested that I change the Polar Bear style/illustration.

Fig 3.2.2 Additional Illustrations

For the new polar bear illustration, I took a photo from pinterest and image traced it into 6 colours. I wanted it to look sort of cartoonish so that it fits the style that I had in mind.

Additionally, there were also illustrations of the polar bear's diet in the original poster. Which I think is a good idea but I didn't like the original style. As the illustrations will be minimized, I didn't want to image trace them with the risk of it looking too complicated or loosing its appearance. So I illustrated the animals in the style that I wanted. I also played around with the colours to see what fits best.

Once I had my illustrations, I arranged all the information and graphical elements into different layouts. These two were my initial layouts with full information, but I was unsatisfied with both. The posters just felt a little messy and lacked informational direction.

Layout 3 (on the left), was the layout that I was most satisfied with. I wanted the poster to look organised, hence I placed all listed information on one side (vertically). Then other additional information (horizontally) below the polar bear. I felt that this arrangement would allow readers to go through information smoothly.

After a feedback session with Mr.Shamsul, he advised me to enlarge the information and change the title to a more attractive one. The poster on the right is the updated poster.

Final Infographic Poster

The final feedback that I received was that I should standardise the style of my graphical elements as well as the colours. I did this by squaring the corners of the rounded elements so that they align better with the other elements with non-rounded corners. I also changed all the elemetns to match the colours of the infographic wheel, as well as making the horizontal and vertical lines solid.

Overall, I aimed for a design that shows clear indications on the sections of information without having to actually split them into different segments. The choice to use a similar colour scheme of the original poster was because the icy blue theme sits well with the category of Polar bears in Arctic. Due to the size requirement of our poster, I opted to remove a few of the additional information from the original poster. "Reproduction" and "Interesting facts" didn't feel very necessary in an infographic poster, hence I chose not to include them so that my poster wouldn't be overcrowded. I also focused more on graphical elements because I wanted the illustrations to show information, instead of writing too much.

Part 02: Animated Infographic Poster

Instructions
1. Animate your infographic poster into one static loop animation page
2. Loop duration in between 15-30 second
3. Size: 1080 x 1920 px (Vertical Video) upload to your own Youtube channel

Animation process

I imported my poster into After Effects and worked on each element as different layers. We were told to keep it simple, so I just did some static animations, like drawing the solid lines. I also used the type effect to type out the title and used linear wipe for the Information wheel.

This was my initial completed poster, made to loop for 30seconds. However, Mr.Shamsul said that the animations were too much. It looked a little messy and crowded due to having too many moving elements at the same time.

Finally, I reduced the amount of moving elements, and shortened the looping time to 20 minutes.

Reflection

I think task 01 was quite enjoyable once I got over the initial idea block of not knowing how to arrange my poster. However, I do think the task really helps me understand the purpose of having a good layout and knowing how to place things in ways that makes information easily understood. I think it was necessary to learn about how each element affects the overall look of an infographic poster. This task of redesigning a poster is a good way of showing us why information should always be well arranged with good elements and complimenting colours. Otherwise, information will be hard to digest.

Task 02 on the other hand, was quite straightforward. The way my poster was designed didn't really allow me to be too crazy with the animation. So, I opted for some simple movements to give it a static loop. Before this task, I wasn't very familiar with after effects, but I think I managed to learn more from doing this animated infographic poster.
