Part 01: Audio Dubbing

Task
We are given a clip from the movie "Everything, Everywhere, All At Once" without audio. The task is to dub the silent video with necessary audios; We need to include ambient effects for the background sounds, hard effects for any moving objects or actions by searching them online. As for the dialogues, we need to record the dubbing with our voice and device. All these elements should be compiled in Premiere Pro with suitable audio adjustments.

NOTE: Music must not be included.

Audio Planning
Before we proceed with editing, Mr. Martin suggested that we should plan out the audio requirements for each scene. So in class, we worked in groups of 5 to do the audio planning in a google sheet following a given template.

Audio planning done by my group

Process

1. Downloaded the "Audio Dubbing" video given to us.
2. Import into Premier Pro.
3. Looked for Ambient effects as well as hard effects online, from https://freesound.org/  and https://99sounds.org/.
4. Downloaded sounds that I wanted.

5. Recorded dialogues on my phone in different rooms, for ambient effect.

6. Once I was done with collecting all the audios, I imported them into Premier pro.

Imported audios

7. I synced the background sounds first, then added ambient presets, reverbs and adjusted the volume to create a suitable atmosphere for each of the scenes. There were a total 3 different ambience:
  • crowd panic and screaming (slightly muffled from inside the closet)
  • crowd panic and screaming (door is open but still inside the closet)
  • office sounds
8. Then I added 3  audio tracks to sync the hard sound effects to the clip. Again, I played with the preset, audio effects and volume of each audio clip to fit the visual atmosphere.

9. Lastly I added the dialogues in another 3 different tracks (one for each character). For each character I adjusted their pitch to make it sound different, one man and 2 woman. I also changed my voice a little when recording the Auditor's dialogue as I didn't want it to sound too similar to Evelyn's voice, but wanted to keep the semitones similar.

10. I replayed the video a few times to see if all the audio clips are in sync with the video, then adjusted accordingly until I was satisfied.

Ambience and Sound Effect
Before Proceeding with adding the dialogue tracks, I saved and exported the ambient and sound effects added to the video. I wanted to listen to the audio on different devices to ensure that the sounds are fitting for the clip, as I wasn't too certain about the audio accuracy of my laptop.

Final Audio Dubbing
This is the final version of my audio dubbing, after adding dialogue and adjusting the sound effects.

Part 02: Audio Shaping

Task
After learning how to use Adobe Audition, we need to record our voice for 5 seconds. Then, we need to apply different effects to our voice to imitate audio in different areas. Listed are the 5 voices we need to replicate.

1. Phone call
2. From a closet
3. In a toilet
4. In a cave
5. Orc/Alien voice

Phone call
I just adjusted the parametric equaliser, as shown in our tutorial slides.

From a Closet
Again I adjusted the parametric equaliser, following the tutorial slides on how to make a muffled audio.

In a closet
As for this one, I adjusted the reverb instead. Mainly focusing on the damping.

In a cave
I struggled with this one a little, but i essentially just added an echo effect, by lengthening delay and feedback to make it seem like a cave echo.

Orc voice
This once was quite funny, but i lowered the pitch and adjusted the distortion to make it sound like an orc.
