Design Principle - Task 03: Design
Task Brief:
For this task, we are expected to produce an artwork that is inspired
by the design work/artist that we have previously chosen and analysed
from Task 01 and Task 02. Knowledge of design principles
should be applied and considered in the produced design work. Our final
creation can be done in any medium and/or materials that we prefer,
provided that it expresses the visual message.

Title: Flourishing in Ruins
Details:
The tingling feeling of thrill and excitement, or anxiousness
is often described with one phrase; to have butterflies in our
stomach. Oftentimes, we are told to treat butterflies with care and to
only observe them from a distance, as they are fragile creatures
of nature. They flutter around with gentle grace, as we bask in
the mesmerising patterns of their wings that move with fluidity.
With such a delicate nature, many of us tend to forget that
butterflies form from cacoons. Cacoons; in which our society
deems ugly, completely disregarding their efforts and
contribution, until they spread their wings into a beautiful
life.
An organised chaos in which beauty is not defined in a specific
way. This piece is solely made up of dead leaves and dirt, as
well as acrylic paint for colour. The aim is to show, not tell,
by portraying the direct relation between attraction and
repulsion (as per the human perception). Consequently, the
vibrant blue tones were intentionally used to create a
contrast with the seemingly dark
basis of the texture creation.
Gestalt theory is also utilised in the interpretation of a butterfly-like
creature that is portrayed by the use of dead leaves, despite
the lack of features that indicates a butterfly. Additionally,
the placement of dirt and leaves put an
emphasis on the center of the piece. This is evident in the
movement of the artwork which is generally pointed in one direction
despite the overall, unorderly manner. Lastly, the artwork is
tied together nicely by the relation of light and dark with
their own identities in the design, the organised chaos is
united in a way that shows a good from of
harmony.
Humans are often convinced that we are the superior being, we
think of ourselves as a species that conquers the universe.
Going along with our own ways and creating chaos on the grounds
of advancing our world. We justify our wrong doings with the
reasoning of presenting as smarter beings, who are capable of
the unimaginable by other organisms. Filled with ego and greed,
failing to consider that humans are still a product of mother
nature. Spreading our wings and flying over horizons, bragging
of our success. Overwhelmed with want, as we neglect the Earth.
Dismissing the damage that is done to those that are a vital
part of our success in their silence. We thrive and thrive to be
the fairest of them all, when we should be appreciating every
other being as unique on their own, as we are. Given what the artwork represents, the destruction of nature is
catching on to us, as our greed in the name of "success"
continues to grow.
We will mourn what was once treasured gold.
